Custom tool box cubbie-hole add on
Last I posted was for a transfer case skid install. I also added about mounting my hitch. For a lack of time and tools I just took it to my local Uhaul and had them mount it. For $45 I was out the door with it "properly installed" even though I was told it was mounted to the frame. Something tells me that if you mounted a hitch to the frame it would rip out just from the weight alone. I'm thinking the greese monkey just used the factory intalled nut bar for the exaust hanger, but I digress as it's mounted and seems to be done correctly.
So on to my new project, a home built 'cubbie-hole' tool box add on. You know for this space here in the back that just looks like something needs to be put in. So I'm gonna.

Now granted at the point of starting this I'd only been thinking about it for about 15 minutes and 5 of it was driving over to some ones house where all the cutting would take place. The rest was just screwing around with the circ-saw, the little bastard is fun times.
Basically this is what I had in my head at the time:

Initially I was going to frame it all and use 1/4 inch plywood. But I found a perfect size piece of scrap 1/2 inch that will work even better, and I get to use the finishing nail gun with it too, sweet. In my head it's about 25 inches long, 6 inches deep and 20 or so high. The dimensions change slightly later on during the cutting.
Ended up starting with the door because there was a perfect size piece on the end, only needed one cut on the edge to clean it up. Then I cut two matching sides and a top. Unfortunatly I do not have all the pics because I did not have the camera and I was to busy to go get it. After about 100 cuts between the circ-saw, and a jig saw to round the side over my wheel well it took shape. Then quickly fell apart again because I had yet to tac it down with any nails.

I did run into a few problems thou, the first one and a major one is that the door is warped. The wood was not, but the door is some how. So I'll have to cut another tomorrow.
To actually mount it I'm going to make a recess in the back along the top and place a metal bar in it and screw it into the box, then thru the plastic and into the metal behind it.

After that I'm going to need to hit up the local junk yard for some matching carpet and carpet the whole outside of the box. The box sits 6 inches deep, more than enough room for anything. Including a maglight mounted inside, a power inverter with outward facing outlets. and god knows what else, like maybe some bees or something. I'll update it again when I actually get the rest of the pieces put on.
